“My art has marked each milestone in my life. Events that shaped my life, were reflected in my art. When my life stalled, my art provided direction. For many years my art has followed my life just as my life has followed my art.”

I have created drawings, prints, paintings, pastels and sculptures throughout my career. “I find it limiting to define my art by a media or a subject choice. I love having my tool box filled with pastels, paints, ink, pencil. Perhaps my art education background of having to study and teach so many media attuned me to love the differences – different textures, surfaces, techniques.

In 1991 Hudson-Tolles was named Art Educator of the Year in Connecticut and in 2001 she received The Distinguished Educators Award from the Connecticut Alliance for Arts Education.

Hudson-Tolles’ art has been featured on the covers of The Chronicle of The Horse and Visions Magazine, in Equine Images, The Horseman’s Yankee Pedlar, and California Riding Magazine. She has artwork in the collections of the Newman/Woodward family, actor Denis Leary, John Lyons, The Phil Marino Racing Stables and newscaster Brian Williams.

The art of L.Hudson-Tolles has been shown in NY, CA, KY, GA, NH, MA, CT, OH and NC. Her pastel ancient pony, “First Frost, (His) Last Winter” was juried into and published in The International Ex Arte Equinus 2011 Show.

In 2018 her bronze "Wild Child" sold to Dubai and rec. 2 awards at the American Academy of Equine Art Juried Show.

Hudson-Tolles was born in Western NY,and attended West Virginia Wesleyan, lived in Philadelphia PA, graduated with a B.S. in Art Education Summa Cum Laude from the University of Bridgeport CT and earned her M.S. with additional postgraduate work in art at Southern Connecticut State University.
